According to the PWInsider website, the new name for what is currently known as ECW on SyFy will undergo a name change to WWE NXT, with NXT somehow standing for "Next Generation."

More details to follow.

I hope this means that Christian, Goldust, Regal, Shelton and Helms are going to be escaping the clutches of ECW because 5 guys whose combined ages are 11 years shy of 2 centuries, none of whom are under 30 doesn't scream 'next gen' to me at all

On a related note, Steven Wilson sent this in to us: Here's a did you know fact for the WWE: There is already a NXT wrestling company, which also stands for NXT Generation. Their website can be viewed via nxtwrestling.com. According to the website they have been around since 2008. The indy fed is based in Rutherglen, Scotland. They have their own wrestling school, produce DVD's and run shows on a fairly regular basis. The next show is scheduled to be this Saturday February 6th. Apparently someone at the WWE didn't do their homework, or (more likely) they don't care.

Put your feet up, sit back and enjoy the final moments of Drew McIntyre's push lol :(

Well hopefully those veterans get placed on the right shows. I assume this NXT show will have a champion. I wonder if they'll have storylines, although it wouldn't do much because ECW didn't have much in-depth storylines. I mean Shelton and Vance is exactly like Shelton and Sheamus, if it's even possible to notice a feud.

WWE is still planning on overhauling the ECW brand, however the changes won't likely be made until after WrestleMania this year. Many SyFy executives have been pushing for WWE to make changes to the brand, and at this point the feeling is that the company will drop the ECW letters, rename the show, and focus it more on younger superstars, which is something WWE has already put into motion. It's also being said that SyFy is pushing for WWE to incorporate more Science Fiction oriented story lines, and conspiracy theory type angles.

This...will not end well...there are no off the wall gimmicks like before with Boogeyman, Kevin Thorn, etc. Which means new (and likely much worse) ones will be cooked up for the debuting ECW newcomers.

Yeah ... that's definately what we need .... science fiction oriented wrestling. Vampires, zombies, and Storm Troopers vs. Vulcans, overgrown insects, and million-year-old cave-dwelling man-eating monsters.

I can see the success already.

Personally I liked all 3 of the people the WWE has given a vampire gimmick throughout their history (Gangrel, Ariel, Kevin Thorn) but I think they ruined Thorn by aligning him with the 'New Breed' and changing his gimmick from 'vampire' to 'follower of vampirism'.

But yeah, the whole science fiction edge is stupid. If I wanted to watch a gimmick based wrestling show I'd follow CHIKARA more closely.

Huh? How would that have any bearing on his push. WWE aren't that erratic.

People obsess over Undertaker and Kane, a sci-fi slant is far from the worst idea I've ever heard

So, it seems the new plan for NXT is a combo wrestling and "reality show" similar to Tough Enough. Rumors are swirling that most of the established stars of ECW will find spots on either RAW or Smackdown. There was even a letter sent out to FCW to be their best in the ring all the time because they may be moving up to the NXT brand soon.

Plenty of questions abound. Will the reality-theme trip over WWE's kayfabe of the other two brands? Also, how do you combine angles with backstage "reality" of up-and-comers? What about the supposed "sci-fi" aspect that SyFy wants for the program? How do you incorporate the unreal characters of NXT with their real personas and expect fans to take it seriously?

I have many more questions, but I guess we'll all have to wait for NXT to debut before we get answers.

As for McIntyre, he' not going to lose his push. He's in with the boss's son-in-law, so his spot seems secure.

It's going to be partly reality based? First I've heard of it.

So was Snitsky, reportedly, he didn't go very far did he. HHH has nowhere near as much control as he's made out to have.

Yet Sheamus, another of Triple H's boys, walked right into a World Championship he didn't and still doesn't deserve, so he must have a little pull, ya think?
