Ladies and gentlemen welcome to this impromptu edition of the Den. Last night during the Ultimate Fighter Finale Hulk Hogan announced that on Monday January 4th TNA iMPACT will go head to head with Monday Night Raw with a 3 hour LIVE special. This is huge news for TNA and I wish them the best of luck in this. Now rumors also have it that the WWE are responding to this by having a 3 hour RAW and also to have Rock be the special Guest GM but nothing is confirmed on that yet. But ya know I was negative about this when i first heard the news and I thought that this might be the first death blow to the little wrestling company that could. But then i began thinking and the more I thought about it the more excited I got but i also kept thinking that this could be the end of TNA. But then something huge popped into my head the last time there was a head to head in the wrestling world was January 4th 1999. WCW Monday Night Nitro took on WWF Monday Night RAW. That night on Nitro WCW gave away the taped results of RAW to everyone watching the LIVE Nitro broadcast and said that on WWF RAW Mankind would be winning the WWF Title. At the moment this was announced thousands of fans switched over to see Foley win the Title. Later that night on Nitro WCW offered everyone the reformation of the nWo with the Finger Poke of Doom angle. January 4th is a night that will live in infamy in the wrestling world, as it was the start of the WWF/E over taking WCW in the ratings and becoming the number 1 promotion in North American and soon to be the world after losing 84 weeks in a row. WCW never recovered from its loss as that night was the death blow to the company and they limped along for a few more years before being bought out by the WWF/E in 2001. The day when the WWE bought its competition signaled the end of the two giants fighting and it all started on January 4th 1999. Now fast forward from 1999 to the latter half of 2009. TNA- Total Non Stop Action signed the most Infamous name in the wrestling business,a man that revolutionized the business, a man who when you think of wrestling he comes to mind.. Hulk Hogan. He is a house hold name and he is one of the most well know people in the entire world and love him or hate him you know that he puts butts in the seats. But since the inception of TNA they have been on the rise and slowly they became the no.2 promotion in North America when after WCW died no one thought that would ever happen again. Now on the cusp of 2010 Hulk Hogan announced that TNA will do its second ever live broadcast. But there was more it wasn't just that iMPACT was going live because they did that before in Las Vegas where the Main Event Mafia formed that night. But what made the news that Hogan announced even bigger was that iMPACT would go head to head with RAW. For the first time in almost a decade for one night only the Monday Night Wars will begin again. TNA the little company that some people thought would never make it will be going head to head with the company that has claimed rights to the number one wrestling company in the world. In my opinion TNA may be about to recreate history because all those years ago on January 4th WCW lost there grip as no.1 and fell to the rising WWF. In some aspects the WWE is in the same state it was before the attitude era started. Will TNA be able to capitalize on this an continue to give an overall better product? I think they can. TNA has the chance in little under a month to start there rise to the number one promotion. In conclusion History always seems to repeat its self and I think come January 4th TNA will take it first steps in recreating the magic on the Monday Night Wars and giving WWE a run for there money and hopefully taking there spot at number 1. This is the make or break moment for TNA and hopefully they will grab the bull by the horns and give it there all. I hope you have all enjoyed this edition of the Owl's Den and remember if you have any questions ask away. If you think I'm wrong then give me your side of the argument. Stayed tuned for future episodes of the Den and remember that I am still searching for a theme song, so if you have a song in mind then let me know. |

I think in some ways, TNA is repeating and rushing history. Hogan signed with WCW in 1994, which really tuned people to WCW, but they grew tired of the face, and at 1996, they finally turned over the new leaf and competed with WWE. Here's the fact, it took two years for WCW to finally prove their Monday show was able to beat WWE. Two years, RAW and WCW were on Monday night TV, and still were upon declaring war. TNA is trying to recreate some type of magic like that, within one night, one Monday show, 2 to 3 months after the Hogan signing. Mr. Stewart, in replying to Franchise's optimistic take, brought a realism saying TNA is not ready and all that. Here, I agree. TNA will now have two money pushers, Panda Energy, and Hogan, but here's the fact, WWE has more money, generates more revenue than both those entities, not to mention, they have marketing strength. Who competed with that marketing in the 90s? Someone who was already rich off marketing in the TV world, Ted Turner, gave Bischoff a lot of zeroes, and turned WCW into a juggernaut. Finance is a big key. Mind you it's only one night, unless later down the line they will say they'll put live Monday shows every week. Is WWE scared, or does WWE want to just rape TNA if they add a 3rd hour, and The Rock? One thing for sure with me, I'm not really leaning towards the former, I think WWE just wants to make a statement, big, but simple in their mentality. So in repeating history, TNA could run their iMPACT on Mondays, and just build and build for 2 years or so, until one turning point happens, likely to involve Hogan, like Styles beat Hogan, or there will be an Anti-Hogan stable, and people will be like, "yo, those guys are badass, they stepped to Hogan and raped him." That was a mark, perspective. At this point, I treat this as a mere testing ground, and it should be a testing ground, not an outright declaration of war. |
