This week on The Roundtable...headed by Franchise..

THE FUTURE OF WRESTLING?

No new breakout WWE Stars
Chris Jericho recently admitted that he sees no future talent in the WWE ready to take the ball and run with it when the current generation leave. Who therefore should be given the chance to become the next breakout star?

Life in TNA without Jeff Jarrett
With Jeff Jarrett seemingly gone from TNA, at least from a Controlling perspective, what should TNA's back office do next to ensure TNA remains on a steady course and what can they do to best improve the product?

Ring of Honor Troubles
With ROH presumably being raided by the WWE for it's brightest talent and news emerging of the company entering financial troubles, what can or needs to be done to ensure that ROH remains in business?

Guest Host of RAW "BTB" with.....
Each week The Roundtable will present it's own version of BTB, as in conjunction with Raw's Guest Host series, one member of The Roundtable will step up and book the upcoming edition of Monday Night RAW their way!

The Roundtable Consensus
Just a week removed from SummerSlam, do The Roundtable give "the biggest party of the Summer" a thumbs up or a thumbs down?

This is...The Roundtable.

Ok folks welcome to the first edition of TWF's The Roundtable. For this inaugural edition I am your host Franchise and I'm pleased to be joined here by some of the brightest and most knowledgeable members on TWF gather and discuss their views on a variety of topics. You'll have to forgive us for the lack of a layout or a method of doing The Roundtable as for now we're really just getting into a feel of it and what we should do...

Anyway enough explaining aside I think we should get onto what we all came here for and that was "topics". The first topic on this edition of The Roundtable concerns the lack of new stars being built by the WWE. Recently we heard that Chris Jericho admitted that he sees no future talent in the WWE ready to take the ball and run with it when the current generation leave. We then asked our distinguished panel of who's who on TWF to name who therefore should be given the chance to become the next breakout star in World Wrestling Entertainment? Let's take it to the panel now and find out by first of all going to the Creator of TWF, Pala...

Pala

When it comes from a top star and a current champion in a company, the superstar of the year for 2008 and a contender for superstar or the year for 2009, you know it’s a concern. The strange thing is, is that WWE was known as the company that made new stars a couple of years ago. Bringing in guys that were not seen as stars in other companies like WCW and turning them into stars and even mega stars like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a guy who wasn’t seen as a star in WCW by Eric Bischoff but when he signed for WWE he transformed in one of the biggest draws and money makers in the history of pro wrestling. So why hasn’t WWE stayed with the same trend of creating new stars?

We’re in 2009 now and let’s see what stars have been made in the last four years. John Cena was drafted to RAW in 2005 and he has become one of the biggest draws in recent memory. Randy Orton and Batista have broke away from Evolution since 2004/2005 and have become big stars. Edge has become a big star and WWE have done a fabulous job in pushing Adam Copeland. CM Punk has become a three time champion since he arrived in WWE, but in my opinion he still hasn’t been built-up as Randy Orton, Batista and John Cena but WWE are certainly going in the right direction. Then you have Bobby Lashley which blew up in WWE’s face.

Now let’s go back to the year 2000, and then look back four years and see what stars WWE/F built over those years. The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Chris Jericho (To some extent), Kane (Again to some extent), The Big Show, and so many more. So why haven’t WWE built as many stars as they have during Attitude Era, I think that the competition and money has something to do with it. Back then, WWE ‘had’ to make stars because they were losing stars to WCW and they couldn’t re-hire talent they had already pushed to be stars. After Vince McMahon bought WCW you could WWE, gradually, he hired back the stars. Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall (Razor), Kevin Nash (Diesel), Roddy Piper because there wasn’t any competition, no bidding war and that led to less room for new talent.

Onto the question that everyone has asked, “Who should be given the chance to become the next breakout star?” It’s a tough question but there are three that come to my mind. Ted DiBiase Jr, Dolph Ziggler and Paul Burchill.

Ted DiBiase Jr. Is in a very advantaged and valuable position within the company right now, not only is he on the flagship show but a key part of the show right now, along with Cody Rhodes, because they are in Legacy. But also, he is in an upcoming WWE Film production and he has a great chance to get a push with the release of his movie. A face turn against Randy Orton could get DiBiase over huge with the crowd and him being a third generation wrestler doesn’t hurt.

Dolph Ziggler has it all in my opinion. He has the look, “Mr. Perfect-esq”, he has the in-ring ability (Rey Mysterio Vs. Dolph Ziggler – Summerslam 2009) and he has the microphone work to carry him to the next level. There isn’t any major flaw with Ziggler, that I have seen, since he debuted and that is a great quality to have.

Paul Burchill is a guy that I am shocked with. I am shocked that he has not had a better career thus far with the WWE. He is big, we know WWE like big guys. He can work the microphone when given the opportunity. He has a good look and he can get the job done in the ring. If I was WWE I would use Paul Burchill to the best of his ability because I can see him as a huge star if used right.

Very informative there Pala.. I'm sure a lot of people will have their opinions on not only what you have brought to this edition of The Roundtable but also who they believe themselves as the next breakout star, and no one more so than our very own "King of TWF", the appropriately named King Nicholas...

*Any other comments for "No new breakout WWE Stars"?

No New Breakout WWE Stars

Chris Jericho recently admitted that he sees no future talent in the WWE ready to take the ball and run with it when the current generation leave. Who therefore should be given the chance to become the next breakout star?

Elevation: noun The act of raising to a high position or status or the condition of being so raised.

Elevation is one of the most fundamental elements in the business that is professional wrestling. Men and
women enter the business, are elevated through success and/or storylines, and become top members of the
company. The business is cyclic - stars are elvated, money is made. More stars means more money and more
money means more stars. That is the nature of the business or any business really. We've all heard the
saying, "You have to spend money to make money" and this saying is never more true than in the business of
professional wrestling. The last several decades have been flooded with stars of the squared circle -
everyone like Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz, Classy Freddie Blassie, Ric Flair, Macho Man Randy Savage, Hulk
Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H.

What do we see, in retrospect, for this latest decade: the year 2000 until the end of the year 2010?

Who, in the last decade, has become a currently active WWE SuperStar?

As we run down the list of currently active WWE SuperStars it is, without a doubt, a disheartening look at
the lack of creativity and the lack of elevation for the WWE. What new talent, not established talent prior
to the year 2000, has been elevated into the main event ranks in the WWE?

Sadly, not very many.

Let's take a look at WWE's current main event elite from the last decade. On Monday Night RAW we have 3 Superstars who have risen to main event status since their debuts in the WWE this decade. Of the 3 we have Dave Batista, John Cena, and Randy Orton.

On Friday Night Smackdown we have 3 more Superstars in CM Punk, Edge, The Great Khali, all of whom have risen to main event status and have worn the Heavyweight title around their waist. Only recently in the last 2 years has CM Punk found himself elevated beyond the confines of the ECW roster who, with as few as 10 members at the time, would not have found it hard to rise quickly due to lack of options.

ECW, well, has none. Regardless of "Captian Charisma" Christian being the ECW Champion on his brand, or any
of the former Heavyweight champions on the roster, there is noone currently on the ECW main eventing any of
the more dominant brands or any PPVs.

We have to ask ourselves then, "Who is left once the current generation of WWE Superstars in gone?" What new
talent has been elevated to take on the current main event scene when guys like Chris Jericho, The Big Show,
Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, and Kane are gone? Who is on the rise to become future champions
and SuperStars of the WWE?

Let's begin with WWE's "flagship show" Monday Night RAW:

1. Evan Bourne.

Making his initial impact in ECW on Sci-Fi Evan Bourne has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds in a
phenominally short amount of time, even moreso after being drafted in an angle set up by billionaire Donald
trump. Due to an injury Bourne has sat most of his inital time on the sidelines and has since made his return
to television. Bourne, however, has been without any kind of program or opponent since coming back. Bourne is
a highly popular member of the RAW roster and WWE needs to capitalize on the overwhelming popularity and
ability of this young man by engaging him in a program with an established member of the roster and honing
his interview skills. Bourne has had little to no time in any kind of speaking role and it is very hard to
elevate a wrestler, especially in WWE, who has no mic skills.

2. Jack Swagger

Swagger possess the size, the skill, a heel smile that the WWE Universe wants to see smacked right off his
face, and the arrogance of every stereotypical high school jock. It is no surprise, then, that many fans
absolutely love to hate this man. Jack has a real (pardon the pun) swagger about him that every good fan
wants to see ripped from his personality and left in the mud to rot. This is why Swagger hold the potential
to become a major player WWE. Even with his obvious lisp Swagger's mic game is improving, but is still at
below average levels. Unfortunately for Swagger it does not sound natural and comes off as what it really is
- he's reading it from a script. Jack Swagger needs to develop a deeper character personality as well. His
current character - the 2-time All-American Wrestler - is growing thin very fast. Bragging rights only go so
far in the world of pro-wrestling before they are overlooked and forgotten. Jack Swagger, though a former ECW
Champion, needs to earn himself some Monday Night RAW based credentials quickly or else he will be lost in
the shuffle.

3. Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston is another talent that WWE seemingly has faith in but remains to be seen if it will continue
throughout the year. Kofi has been featured at some of the biggest matches on WWE PPV including the Money In
the Bank matches at WrestleMania and was set to be a member of the Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out
earlier this year after working his way through the qualifying brackets. Kingston was taken out of the match
and replaced with Edge as part of the storyline. On the bright side of things it was still a sign of faith by
the WWE that they would allow Kingston to make it that far, let alone the chance to become the Heavywieght
Champion. Kingston, like many, is without a fued on Monday Nights. Currently Kingston is doing nothing more
that accepting challenges for his United States Championship on a weekly basis and is doing little else on
TV. Kofi is in need of a strong program with an established member of the WWE roster in order to showcase the
incredible athletic ability that Kofi posesses and once he begins his climb to the top only the inevitable
politics can stop him.

4. Mark Henry

Mark Henry has been in and out of the WWE since 1998, yet has never been more "over" with the fans than right
now. The problem with Henry is that he is being booked in an atrocious manner going from defeating then WWE
Champion Randy Orton on his first night on Monday Night RAW to comedy matches with Hornswoggle and an
impromptu tag-team pairing with MVP. Mark Henry has all the size and strength to make him a formidable foe
for any challenger yet WWE seems intent on keeping Henry stuck in the middle. WWE Creative completely
abandoned his momentum from pinning WWE Champion Randy Orton and, in the process, destroyed the most perfect
opportunity to have Mark Henry become a main even star. If the WWE creative team can recognize just how to
utilize Henry's size and strength to make him an even bigger and stronger character Henry could mix it up in
the ring with almost any challenger for any belt.

5. Ted DiBiase

There is nothing more devastating to the credibility of Ted DiBiase as a viable contender than the current
role he is in right now. Ted DiBiase is nothing more than a foot soldier for a man who, just a few months
ago, had a better wrestling match with Randy Orton than 90% of his peers have with Orton since he became
champion. Ted DiBiase Jr. has the look, the size, and the skill to become a breakout star and stand on his
own 100% solo. All that DiBiase needs to do is break away from the handicap known as Legacy in grand fashion
and in the process he will carry with him the momentum he'll need as a breakout singles wrestler. Where he
goes from there is up to WWE.

Now Let's move on to WWE's 2nd-Round show Friday Night Smackdown:

1. Dolph Ziggler

"I Am Perfection" says the opening lyrics of his theme song. The words are just shy of true, but they aren't
false either. Dolph made his initial run in WWE as one of 5 male cheerleaders in the group known as "The
Spirit Squad". "Nicky", as he was known in the spirit squad, was just as over-the-top in a his green and
white school uniform as he is in his current wrestling attire, only Ziggler has dropped the comedy act in
favor of pure aggression. Ziggler is quickly rising as a contender not to be taken lightly and his current
fued with Rey Mysterio has captured many eyes that would otherwise look the other way. ziggler vs. Mysterio
at this year's SummerSlam was easily one of the best on the entire card. Whether on RAW or Smackdown Ziggler
has shown incredible athleticism and the ability to not only work with anyone but to make them look god too.
Just look at the matches Ziggler was having with Khali. Ziggler managed to do what not even Triple H,
Batista, or The Undertaker could do and that was make Khali look excellent in the ring. If Dolph is given the
ball and some solid storylines behind him it will only be a matter of time before Dolph finds himself taking
on either the World Heavyweight Champion or the WWE Champion.

2. John Morrison

"The Shaman Of Sexy" John Morrison is undoubtedly one of the most unique, and therefore standout, characters
of all time in World Wrestling Entertainment. Morrison has the total package: athletic ability, a great look,
microphone skills, outstanding charisma, and wrestling ability. Morrison is young, able-bodied, in tremendous
phyical shape, and looks like he could hang with anyone that WWE would throw at him. The only thing left for
WWE to do is to put Morrison in the title run against CM Punk who Morrison has defeatedly several times in
ECW, as well as currently on Smackdown, and for the ECW Heavyweight Championship. Allowing Morrison to earn
his first title from Punk would instantaneously skyrocket him into the fans' favor due to him being
responsible (kayfabe) for Jeff Hardy leaving WWE.

3. The Hart Dynasty

Legends.

These 3 were born for this business. These 3 bleed this business and these 3 will succeed in this business.

Never were there higher expectations for a group of individuals than for these young superstars. Natalya
Neidhart, Harry Smith, and TJ Wilson - the adpoted Hart child. This trio of young talent is expected to carry
on a real family legacy and make no mistake they could become the next greatest faction since the original
Hart Foundation.

TJ Wilson - Tyson Kidd (as he's known in WWE) is comparable to Dynamite Kid - his speed, agility, and agressive nature inside the ring are all
reminiscant of Dynamite.

Harry Smith - almost an exact replica of his father. He is as big and as powerful as his father was with an
exceptional height advantage Davey Boy never had. Standing at a true 6' inches tall Smith was skilled enough
at the age of 10 years old to wrestle in front of audiences at house shows for WWE.

Natalya Neidhart - Do not underestimate this woman. The fact that she is the only female in the group, as
well as the only female Hart currently wrestling, has little bearing on just how dominant she can be. She was
trained by her uncles Ross and Bret "Hitman" Hart and has just as much explosive power as her father Jim "The
Anvil" Neidhart. Whether as a singles wrestler or in the faction that bears her name Natalya Neidhart is
destined for greatness in World Wrestling Entertainment.

And last, but not least, the final brand of World Wrestling Entertainment: ECW

1. Zack Ryder

Woo Woo Woo. With a gimmick like that who can overlook a personality like Zack Ryder. We got our first
glimpse of the character known as Zach Ryder in 2007 as one of the fake Edge's at Armageddon. Ryder has
already had a bit of a breakout year since being repackaged and debuting on ECW. Fans love to chant along
with is "Woo Woo Woo" and Ryder obviously has some backing in WWE since he's been with the company since
2007.

In a company with 77 active in-ring performers to say that there are only 9 potential breakout superstars is
quite a low blow to a company that prides itself and claims to be the best in the world at what it does. With
Hollywood writers, a staff of former wrestlers, and the McMahon family behind the pen writing scripts each
week and controlling the content of the show it makes you wonder if they have all lost touch with what it
takes to make a star. There are so many bodies at their disposal and yet the WWE struggles to elevate even
the most talented young athletes. If the WWE cannot learn how to elevate and capture the attention of the
audience before the current veterans are gone the WWE is going to find itself in the worst shape that it's
ever been.

I'd like to ask Pala to elaborate a bit further on why he believes Paul Burchill would be a main eventer. Let it be known that I am not debating but I would just like to ask you Pala what you believe are his stand out qualities that make him a potential break out star. Is he a convincing personality? Is he a good worker? If you wouldn't mind adding a bit more Pala I'd appreciate it.

Don't mind if I cut you off King Nicholas but I'm a big fan of the potential Paul Burchill possesses. So I'll jump in here and and try convince you, your royal highness...

Paul Birchill - Paul Burchill is probably the best option for most underused talent in the WWE. This man can fight & he brings the evil brawler character with him to the ring. His moves may lack finesse or fancy maneouvres... but what he does in the ring makes you believe to an extent that he is pummeling the crap out of the opponent. That finisher he had where he put his boot on the back of the opponents head & squashed it between a rock & a hard place per se was brutal & sickening. Since he started in the company 4-5 years ago, we saw glimpses of how good of a worker he is, then came the Pirate gimmick! Jesus Christ are you kidding me. sure, it got over.....for 2 months then got stale enough for management to demote him back to OVW where "the Ripper" character was born and was pretty awesome. I thought him moving to ECW was going to be a good move where that character could be taken to another level and a possible ECW champion. Instead, they had him jobbing to Chuck Palumbo with 'hang ten' entrance music, WTF??? He could be a serious bad ass if used properly and become a much bigger name than any of these nut-sacks he is jobbing to. Now I know this next statement would be seen as going off-topic but I for one would love to see Paul Burchill as part of TNA's British Invasion.

On Paul Burchill, I think that he is probably one of the most under-used guys in the WWE right now. I would even go as far as saying that he has more potential than Shelton Benjamin. I believe that Shelton is extremely talented but if you are looking for a star who has it all, that is Burchill in my opinion. He is a guy who stands out to me. His look reminds me of a cross between a year 2000 Triple H and CM Punk. With a little bit of work he could, in my eyes, easily be hugely over. He has a good size, but he can still move quicker than a lot of the guys in WWE right now.
Rest in peace, fucker.
